Welcome to The Makers Lab, the new S-T-E-A-M FabLab of Madison Russian School!
A space for discovery, exploration, creation, collaboration, and problem solving. 
Each week we will present a new experiment, concept, or tool and explain the natural phenomena at play. Children will then have time to explore new ideas in small groups and to present their research. Our young explorers will be learning new vocabulary as they learn about the world around them. They will be inspired to put new ideas to immediate use and to practice the critical skills of scientific and creative research, such as curiosity, focus, persistence, and collaboration.
This class incorporates inquiry-based learning theories of Loose Parts. But the students won’t know that. Nor will they care much that this class incorporates a full range of STEAM education, using Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. 
Our main goal is that students feel inspired to explore the world around them with their whole body-mind, speaking Russian all the while.

Пространство для наблюдений, экспериментов, открытий, творчества и сотрудничества!
 
На каждом уроке ваш ребёнок будет знакомиться с новым явлением (например, ветер или состояния вещества) или понятием (например, гравитация или магнетизм). После ознакомительной беседы ваш ребёнок сможет пронаблюдать это явление, “поиграть” с его свойствами, работая в малой группе над творческим проектом (например, создание магнитного лабиринта или плетение гигантской паутины). Занятие завершается беседой о том, как группа решала поставленную перед ними задачу: что получилось или не получилось, что можно сделать иначе в следующий раз.
 
В Мастерской мы используем подручные материалы (theory of Loose Parts), наблюдая научные, инженерные, математические явления и вплетая творческий компонент. В Мастерской мы стремимся создать пространство для диалога, критического мышления и любознательности.
 
Наша главная задача - поддержать и развить естественную потребность вашего ребёнка к познанию окружающего мира, одновременно обогащая его словарный запас русского языка.
